Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – A Jonesboro man is being held on a $1 million cash/surety bond following allegations that he raped an elementary-aged child. According to court documents, the victim, who has a developmental delay, disclosed the abuse to a counselor.

On March 6, Jonesboro police were notified of a Poinsett County investigation involving a child who disclosed sexual abuse by 18-year-old Seth Evan Jones. According to the probable cause affidavit, Jones would take the victim into the woods on a four-wheeler to teach what he said was “how to make a baby.”

During a forensic interview, the child detailed multiple instances of sexual abuse. The most recent incident allegedly occurred at a residence where Jones lived.

According to the child’s statement, Jones allegedly committed another act of rape while the two were in a bedroom the weekend before the interview. The victim expressed fear and told Jones to stop.

According to the affidavit, Poinsett County detectives interviewed Jones’ mother, who reportedly told investigators “that person wasn’t Jones.” She claimed a “demon” had taken control of him.

On March 18, Jones came to the Jonesboro Police Department and turned himself in. He was taken and booked into the Craighead County Detention Center at 9:04 a.m., according to the online jail roster.

A few hours later, Jones appeared before District Judge David Boling. He found probable cause to charge Jones with rape, a class Y felony. In addition to the $1 million bond, Jones was ordered to have no contact with the victim.

Jones’ next court appearance is scheduled for April 23. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
