Jonesboro, AR – Contributed –  Arkansas State (25-17, 9-11 SBC) fell to Louisiana (25-17, 9-11 SBC) in an 11-5, 10-inning back-and-forth affair Saturday evening at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.

ASU plated a run in the bottom of the first, a leadoff Cason Campbell double set him up to score on a wild pitch. The Ragin’ Cajuns responded right after with a solo shot to lead off the second and another to score two for the road team to take the 3-1 advantage.

A-State answered with a two-out rally in the fourth inning, slapping three singles in a row to score one before runners at the corners allowed the Red Wolves to execute a double steal. Raul Torres then doubled another runner home to take the 4-3 lead.

A-State loaded the bases in the fifth, Patrick Engskov standing in for an RBI-walk to add another to the ASU total.

UL led off the sixth with a pair of singles, then added one run with an RBI-single. The Cajuns then added the tying run after loading the bases in the seventh and working an RBI-walk.

Even into the ninth, A-State worked out of a bases-loaded jam with a circus catch by Evan Griffis in right field. Ashton Quiller drove a double down the left field line and advanced to third off a Lane Walton single, but couldn’t find the tiebreaker.

UL scored three runs on a bases-clearing triple in the 10th inning before adding another three for the 11-5 win.

  • Win: Tyler Papenbrock (2-0)
  • Loss: Jelle van der Lelie (2-1)

A-State returns Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. to face Louisiana for game 3 of the series at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.
