Monroe, LA – Contributed – Arkansas State (24-15, 9-9 SBC) held ULM (21-19, 9-9 SBC) at bay throughout the length of the game while stacking runs throughout thanks to a pair of solo shots from Derek Martinez.

The Red Wolves secured the road series in a 4-1 Sunday afternoon win at Lou St. Amant Field.

A-State marked the scoreboard first after Martinez drilled a two-out solo homer opposite field in the top of the first inning. ULM was quick to answer in the second half of the frame, scoring one of the two runners on base with a single into center field.

The Red Wolves retook the lead in the third inning after putting their first two runners on and bunting them both into scoring position. Martinez added another RBI on a sacrifice fly for the 2-1 advantage.

A pair of doubles from AJ Mustow and Cougar Cooke plated the Red Wolves’ third run an inning later, as starter Dylan Farley motored through the bottom of the inning, sitting down the three batters faced in order. Farley continued on into the seventh, only letting up another walk in the fifth and a single in the sixth to secure his third quality start of the season (six or more innings with three or fewer runs allowed).

Tyler Weimer took over in the seventh, allowing two hits and no free passes in his 3.0 innings of work for the extended save. Martinez added an insurance run with a leadoff solo home run in the eighth inning on the first pitch he saw. Weimer struck out three batters in total and worked the final three outs with just six pitches.

  • Win: Dylan Farley (6-1)
  • Loss: JC Dermody (4-5)
  • Save: Tyler Weimer (2)

A-State returns home to host Central Arkansas in a midweek matchup on Tuesday, April 21. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.

Bam! Pow! Krakoom! The everlasting allure of the American comic book

Pick one up. Be seduced by its glossy cover. Gaze upon the impossibly muscular body clad in a skin-tight suit. Our hero or heroine will surely be soaring, shouting, blasting a villain into next week. They are ridiculous. They are addictively great. Comic books, of the superhero variety, are 100% American.
