Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Police arrested a Blytheville man after they said he choked his girlfriend and fired a handgun twice inside a Jonesboro apartment during a domestic assault.

District Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause Nov. 7 to charge 19-year-old Kiree Devon Carter with the following:

  • Class D Felony: Aggravated assault on a family or a household member
  • Class D Felony: Possession of a firearm by certain persons (prior felony)
  • Class A Misdemeanor: Third-degree domestic battery
  • Discharging firearms within city limits
  • Class A Misdemeanor: First-degree criminal mischief (property of another with a value of $1,000 or less)
  • Class A Misdemeanor: Second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor
  • Class B Misdemeanor: Second degree- interference with emergency communication

The charges come after Jonesboro police responded to an apartment on Kristi Lake Drive on Oct. 18 for a domestic disturbance.

According to the probable cause affidavit, officers met with the victim, who said her boyfriend, Carter, became “violently jealous” after he saw a man touch her neck, causing him to hit her in the head multiple times. When she tried to call for emergency help, Carter took her phone from her, picked up an unknown item, and threw it at her TV, breaking the screen.

The victim said the situation escalated when Carter pointed a handgun at her before aiming it toward an open door and shooting it twice. With both hands, he then grabbed her by the neck and choked her to the point she could not breathe.

The affidavit said Carter lifted the victim by the neck and slammed her to the floor, resulting in scratches on her neck. The victim also told police that her child was in the living room and saw the assault.

The affidavit said two spent casings were found in the living room, noting that the scene appeared to show signs that a struggle had taken place.

The online jail roster shows that Jonesboro police arrested Carter on Nov. 5.

Carter was given a bond of $350,000 cash/surety, also covering another case he faces charges in, after court documents said he and another suspect were arrested in a bust that resulted in over 600 grams of marijuana being found, among other items.

In addition to the bond, Fowler ordered Carter to have no contact with the victim and wear a GPS ankle monitor upon release.

Carter’s next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 16.
