Craighead County, Northeast Arkansas Under Extreme Heat Warning

Craighead County, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – Craighead County and parts of Northeast Arkansas will be under an extreme heat warning on Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, “dangerously hot” conditions, with heat index values of up to 112°F, are expected. The warning goes into effect Thursday at noon and will remain in effect until 8 p.m.

Even after the warning ends, Northeast Arkansas and Jonesboro remain under a heat advisory from 8 p.m. Thursday to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Heat index values of up to 111°F are expected.

Heat-related illnesses increase during high heat events. People are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned spaces, stay out of the sun, and check on vulnerable friends, family members, and neighbors. Click here for more information about heat-related illnesses.

To beat the heat, the City of Jonesboro is offering several cooling stations at its community centers across town. GOJO, the city’s public transit service, will provide free rides to cooling centers. Find the full list here.

In addition, the Parsonage, located at 305 S. Main St., said people needing a cool space and drink could take shelter at its restaurant.
