Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – June 24, 2024 – A Trumann man is behind bars after being charged with several offenses over the weekend as a result of driving while intoxicated.

22-year-old Mario Burks was driving near the intersection of Arch and Highland on Sunday around midnight when he collided with another vehicle. The report states that the victim of the other vehicle was trapped inside the driver seat of the car for approximately one hour while the fire department was trying to extract her from the vehicle. She was put in a neck brace and flown to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis once extracted from the car.

Listed injuries include severe lacerations, internal injury, and broken bones. Her condition is unknown at this time.

The Probable Cause affidavit states that Burks had “bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech, and officers noted the odor of intoxicants emanating from his person. Officers also noted that Burks was bleeding from his face.” He also made the statement to Officers to “lock me up” and “it was my fault.”

The report also states that a “large bottle of Malibu rum,” a, “empty bottle of Crown Royal Whiskey,” and a “large bottle of Tito’s vodka” were located in Burk’s vehicle.

One officer states that during the execution of the blood draw warrant, Burks was acting “belligerent” and stated “f*ck the Judge” and “I make more than the judge” and “f*ck Fowler man tell him to lock me up.”

Burks was charged with battery in the 2nd degree, reckless driving, disorderly conduct, refusal to submit, reckless driving, and DWI. He also has prior alcohol charges.

Burks went before Judge Boling today and was given a $25,000 c/s bond. His next court date is August 23 at 8:30am.
