Police spoke with Turner’s wife, who said they were leaving the parking lot when Turner, the driver, attempted to brake, but the vehicle accelerated into the building. Airbags subsequently deployed.

Turner, who was in a wheelchair, was thrown backward due to the airbags and impact, the report said. It noted that the child was “properly buckled into her car seat in the third row of the vehicle.”

The report further noted that Turner’s wife was buckled, but “no type of restraint system was observed for the driver.” It said the vehicle’s seatbelt was locked out in the upright position.

According to the incident report, an employee at the scene told police that when the vehicle reversed out of the parking spot, it seemed the braking system was operating correctly. The employee went on to state that he turned to go to a different bay to return to work when he then heard a loud bang.

Turner’s wife told police they’d received the vehicle the previous day and knew that her husband had tried to brake, and that the vehicle had accelerated for some reason. All occupants were taken to St. Bernards.

Family confirmed on social media that Turner died over the weekend.
