Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – A Jonesboro man faces felony charges after police discovered multiple handguns and signs of narcotics during a traffic stop that led to the arrest of both him and a juvenile passenger.
At 10:40 p.m. June 10, Arkansas State Trooper Daniel Willey was conducting a stationary radar check on Interstate 555 near the 45-mile marker when he saw a vehicle traveling at 83 miles per hour, 18 miles over the 65 speed limit. A traffic stop was conducted, and the trooper met with the driver, a juvenile passenger, and a front passenger, 18-year-old Daquan Leshaun Law.
According to the probable cause affidavit, while talking with the driver, the trooper smelled marijuana from inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted. Before the search, Law was asked if there were any weapons inside, and he admitted that there was a handgun inside the console, claiming it belonged to the driver.

During the search, Willey found a loaded Canik 9mm handgun from under the seat where Law had been sitting. Additionally, the trooper found a Glock 9mm handgun and an extended magazine from where the juvenile was sitting in the back of the vehicle. Several small square pieces of plastic consistent with narcotic packaging were found near the center console, but the packaging was empty.
While the driver was cited and released, the juvenile was arrested and taken to the Craighead County Juvenile Detention Center. Meanwhile, Law was arrested and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.
During the intake process, Law told detention officers that he had ingested several narcotics before leaving home earlier in the evening and was in need of medical assistance. He was taken for medical evaluation and treatment.
On June 15, Law appeared before District Judge David Boling, who found probable cause to charge Law with theft by receiving a firearm valued at less than $2,500 (Class D felony) and contributing to the delinquency of a minor (Class A misdemeanor).
Law was given a $75,000 cash/surety bond and was later released. His next scheduled court appearance is on July 30. If convicted on both charges, he faces up to seven years in prison and fines up to $12,500.
