Mobile, AL – Contributed – Arkansas State (29-23, 12-17 SBC) left runners lonely on the base path in the 2-7 Friday night loss to South Alabama (32-21, 16-13 SBC) at Eddie Stanky Field.

Arkansas State struck first with a solo home run in the top of the second, a one-out shot by Evan Griffis to left center.

The Jaguars found offense in the third frame, leading off the inning with a double, then slugging a home run of their own to score two, before an RBI-triple added another. The University of South Alabama (USA) added another run in the fourth with a leadoff dinger for the 4-1 advantage.

A-State placed runners at the corners with two outs, leading the way for a Derek Martinez RBI double, but was unable to find any more offense. South put traffic on the bases in the seventh and walked in two runs to extend the lead, then added their final run of the night with an RBI single in the eighth for the 7-2 final.

  • Win: Andrew Allen (1-6)
  • Loss: Jaxon Shineflew (5-2)
  • Save: Zach Stevens (2)

A-State returns for the rubber match at South Alabama Saturday afternoon with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
