Jonesboro, AR – (Contributed) – St. Bernards Healthcare announced the opening of its new Hand & Wrist Center on Thursday, led by the arrival of hand and microsurgery specialist, Dr. Safder Hasan.
The new center is the first of its kind in Northeast Arkansas, seeing patients on the second floor of the Medical Arts Professional Building (800 South Church Street) in Jonesboro and performing surgical procedures inside St. Bernards Medical Center. Dr. Hasan and his team will incorporate therapies and surgeries for injuries and disorders affecting the hands, wrists, and arms.
He comes to St. Bernards after completing a hand and microsurgery fellowship at the University of Louisville’s prestigious Kleinert Kutz Hand Center, the largest and longest-serving hand surgery practice in the U.S.
St. Bernards chief of medical staff, urologist Dr. Emma Jacobs, said the new center and Dr. Hasan’s presence meet a great need for northeast Arkansas and southeast Missouri.
“Dr. Hasan brings a wealth of surgical training and experience we have not had here before,” Dr. Jacobs said. “Patients will no longer have to travel to Little Rock, Memphis, or elsewhere because they need specialized surgery for a hand or wrist. This new center reiterates St. Bernards’ commitment to bringing new care options, right here at home, led by a talented physician who studied at the birthplace of hand surgery itself.”
At St. Bernards Hand & Wrist Center, Dr. Hasan’s practice will offer:
- Hand elective services, such as joint replacements (arthroplasties) for thumbs and digits, work-related and repetitive strain injuries, and arthritis and joint reconstruction
- Trauma services that treat fractures, dislocations, and tendon injuries
- Microsurgery, including replantation and vascular and nerve repairs
- Nerve and functional restoration, including carpal tunnel and tendon transfers
- Soft tissue and infection treatment
- Rehabilitation and postoperative hand therapy

Dr. Hasan studied medicine in Pakistan and Qatar, including an ACGME internationally accredited orthopedic surgery residency with Hamad Medical Corporation in Doha. He then moved to Atlanta in 2018 to complete a general surgery residency at Emory University. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, cartoons, animation, basketball, baseball, field hockey, cricket, and volleyball. He lives in Jonesboro with his wife, Dr. Maheen Khan, a neurosurgeon who also practices with St. Bernards.
